Choudhury was born in Calcutta in 1946 and started practicing yoga at four years old under Bishnu Ghosh.

For Beginners
The heat can be intense (as the class is held at a room temperature, approximately, 40.6 degrees Celsius or 105 degrees Fahrenheit), however after a few classes it becomes a warm and welcoming sensation; after feeling some of the benefits of heated studios, students come to appreciate the temperature. Bikram is a great place for beginners to push themselves – just remember to stay hydrated before and during class.

What is needed?
Hydration is the key to Bikram Yoga. It is very advisable to drink plenty of water before practice, during practice, tons of water after practice. By hydrating properly, this avoids dizziness and of course to have a break from the heat. Most studios provide a mat and a towel.

What is to expect?
Bikram Yoga will bring a lot of sweat, due to the temperature and the degree of difficulty of the position. It is always recommended to always listen to the body, taking a break is not forbidden, when rest is needed, it highly recommended to rest.

Benefits
Bikram yoga brings enhanced flexibility, successful recovery from injury (due to deep stretching) and the endless flushing of toxins due to increased perspiration.

Conclusion
Expect to sweat a lot and from places that someone would not imagine that produces sweat (including shins, elbows, fingers, etc.). Bikram yoga’s goal is to increase general health and many believed that a heated room will help drive a deeper stretch while preventing injury. Bikram is consisting of 26 set poses and 2 breathing exercises.

Caveat/Warning
Dehydration may be present due to excessive sweating. Also, there is a risk of hyperthermia, which is overheating of the body. Hyperthermia symptoms are nausea, dizziness, or fainting, which can lead to a heat stroke. However, it can be prevented by proper hydration. There are additional pre-condition health issues that should be consulted first to a doctor before proceeding to take Bikram Yoga to avoid potential risks.
